Ashley James Williams – Gone Home

Date: 9th Aug 2021 Author: Tyler Skerton

It is with huge sadness that we share with you today, that Ashley Williams, Group Scout Leader of the 8th/19th Harrow, passed away yesterday.

Ash was a immensely dedicated and active Scouter, loved by so many people. Week in week out, Ash gave 100% effort to his Group, to which he cherished so dearly.

Ash began Scouting in the early 1950’s, continuing through to various leadership positions primarily in the Scout section. I had the pleasure last year of recognising his achievement by appointing him to the position of Group Scout Leader – representing not only his dedication, but recognising the level of respect his Group gave him. In 2015, Ash was awarded the Bar to the Silver Acorn for specially distinguished and appreciably better than outstanding service to Scouting.

I fondly remember listening to Ash talk about his Group – how they were always trying to break boundaries, try new experiences and make sure that the young people were having the best time when at Scouts. His success could be seen most notably in his Scout Troop, which grew to having nearly 50 members – an achievement obtained by the hard work and effort of him, and the team he led.

I will join a lot of people in saying that Ash will be missed so dearly. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

More details will be released in due course about how to pay tributes. Please do reach out if you have been affected and would like to talk or to arrange further support.
